The VBook library is now downloadable, further VBook would be added if I have the time. Many enhancements are possible but it is very time consuming, pictures and sound is easy to do but it has to be done for individual VBook. For now, 'War And Peace' has slightly more elaborate formatting (A hint of the shape of things to come).

Dickens

The short stories archive contains everything that is under 100K except 'A Christmas Carol'.

Mr Humbug has earned his own volume.

The collection is almost complete, a few is excluded because the work is not entirely by Dickens.

Sherlock Holmes Complete

This is the biggest English VBook in this library, beating 'War And Peace' by a small margin.

Technically, I can build this entire library into a single VBook but it could take over a whole minute to decompress every time you open it.

Actually, this library is a VBook, providing 'links' to the individual VBooks.

The VBooks don't have to reside on the same website, this library could grow very big.

Arsene Lupin

This series of book by Maurice LeBlanc rivals Sherlock Holmes in popularity in many countries.

You can think of it as the French rival to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the thief vs the detective.

Sadly, this is originally written in French and I have only managed to find four of the English translations.

Interestingly, I have read just about all the Chinese translations many years ago.

Smart VBook

The next stage in VBook development is probably going to be dynamic indexing and search capabilities.

The main contender is guides, documentation and reference.

Searching through over a thousand pages of text in multiple volumes of books is dreaded by most people.

LINUX HOWTOs and user guide would save the 'newbies' a lot of pain.

The various W3C specs and FAQs in general are particularly unpleasant to dig through.

'O' and 'A' studies guides would also be nice but they woule be a lot of work to produce.

There is a strategy in the freebie agenda. The technology is expected to be used for money making things like catalogue and 'shopping cart'.

絕代雙嬌

This is one of my favourite books, it qualify as one of the most popular book in the world

Opposingly, a person who is not Chinese is unlikely to know of it.

This book has been made into films many times and has been made into television series many time as well.

This is still going on, new ones keep on appearing.

Anyway, VBook can be UNICODE, it can come in just about any language you want.

Library

TransVBook
News: new type of VBook that translates Chinese to English. If interested, it is free for grabs (Interesting experience to read Chinese as Chinese but in English).

This 'generation' of VBook can be flipped through just like a 'real' paper book. (use the left and right arrow keys)

To download the VBooks, click on the book title with the <CONTROL> key held down. Need to download two files, the data file and an HTML page, the two files has to be in the same directory for the VBook to work, view the HTML with Explorer and the VBook comes up.

The VBooks can be read online if you click on them but the browser has to download the entire book before it can be displayed, it makes sense to download the VBook and read it locally (People don't generally want to see this web site while they are reading a book).

The library is itself a VBook, intended to work with the Explorer, other browsers may not work. This message will be replaced by the library if everyting works.
