Freebie Link Check program for grabs
If you don't want links from GrabAFreebie, GrabAFreebie LinkCheck is free for download (36K). This link checker has the ability to check web pages blocked by 'robots.txt' and the 'robots' META tag, it also has the ability to retrieve the Google PageRank from Google. Useful in the quest for links.
The GrabAFreebie LinkCheck is written entirely from scratch, this includes the code that handles the HTTP request and the HTML parser. Frequently, the web page a browser gets to read is different to what a search engine robot reads. Very commonly, a web server responds differently to different browser/client, on many website the server translates the upper case characters of an URL to lower case when I ran LinkCheck while the browser receives the URL unmodified, when I tried the lower case URL in a browser I received a 'not found' page containing links to the ISP.
For a link to be accepted as 'good', a search engine robot should be able to read the web page in a 'straight' manner, this the main reason I developed the GrabAFreebie LinkCheck (likely, a normal link checker would attempt to 'resolve' the HTTP response and not necessarily obtain the web page of interest).
